Como o The Guardian escreveu, “In the UK, Portuguese music is at its greatest level of public acceptability for decades”.
I am 50 years old and have heard much fado from Amalia through my husband who is a big fan of her.
We are Azorean immigrants in the USA. I am a school principal and my husband a school custodian. I am now a fervent fan of Mariza. Yes, Amalia was wonderful but Mariza has taken Fado and moved on. Her style is unique and her voice heavenly. She does not take anything away from Amalia and comparing the two is unfair. I just saw her in concert here in the US and her music brought tears to my eyes and my heart.
Please, dear musical experts do not downgrade one for the other. Both ladies are gifted beyond the mere mortals but Mariza is bringing Fado to a new generation and reintroducing the passion of Fado to a new world.
